Company headquarters from 1838 (Rheintor)
In 1838, Rudolf Erismann, Leo Gnädinger and their partner Hannhard founded the Erismann wallpaper factory in Breisach am Rhein’s historic Rheintor (Rhine Gate).
In 1851, Johann Baptist Hau – merchant, winegrower and mayor of the town – took over the wallpaper factory and gave it a more stable financial footing. His son-in-law, Franz Joseph Müller, worked alongside him and helped to steer the company to success.

Production site from 1858 onwards (Richard-Müller Strasse)
1858: By this stage the Rheintor had become too small. Under the leadership of Franz Joseph Müller, a block printing factory was built in what would later become Breisach’s Richard-Müller-Street.
Erismann Wallpapers experienced a very eventful history:
In the mid 19th century, the manual block printing process was replaced by the first mechanical systems in the mid 19th century, which were then followed by rotary printing in the 20th century.
After the devastation of World War II and the period of reconstruction that followed, from 1948 onwards surface printing and multi-colour embossing came to dominate the entire wallpaper industry, including the Erismann factory.
Flexographic and gravure printing methods were introduced at Erismann in the early 1970s.
With the introduction of relief or blown vinyl wall coverings in 1985, (produced using the then state-of-the-art rotary screen printing method), Erismann was able to offer customers a new product which was enthusiastically received.

The Group’s head office since 1993 (Hafenstrasse)
In 1993, Erismann moved into a newly built wallpaper factory outside Breisach containing state-of-the-art machinery. Modern logistics, products which respond to market requirements and qualified members of staff make Erismann one of the world’s leading producers of wall coverings.
Erismann introduced the flat vinyl heat embossing technique in 1995. In addition, a third screen printing machine was purchased.
In 2001, Erismann invested in modern logistics and expanded its high-bay warehouse.
In 2003, a new factory, OOO Erismann, was founded in Woskressensk, near Moscow, Russia. The factory boasts the latest production facilities for the manufacture of wallpaper using screen printing methods.
With the construction of a further production hall and warehouse, and the commissioning of a third, ultra-modern screen printing machine, operations in Woskressensk were expanded in 2008.
